Seat Belt Pretensioner

  1. Before deploying air bag, inspect operating condition of Deployment Tool (49 H066 002). See INSPECTING DEPLOYMENT TOOL  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove appropriate seat belt pretensioner. See SEAT BELT BUCKLE PRETENSIONER & SWITCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect Adapter Harness (49 L066 002) to seat belt pretensioner connector. Position seat belt pretensioner inside of scrap tire. Using strong wire, attach seat belt pretensioner to wheel with tire installed, wrapping wire through tire lug holes and around seat belt pretensioner least 4 times.
  3. Leaving adapter harness accessible, stack 3 scrap tires on top of tire which seat belt pretensioner is attached. place another wheel with tire installed on top of entire stack and tie stack together with strong wire. Connect Red clip of deployment tool to positive battery terminal and Black clip of deployment tool to negative battery terminal. Verify deployment tool Red light is on.
  4. Ensure all persons are at least 20 feet (6 m) from seat belt pretensioner. Press deployment tool activation switch to deploy seat belt pretensioner. Because of heat generated from seat belt pretensioner deployment, wait at least 15 minutes before handling deployed seat belt pretensioner. Place deployed seat belt pretensioner in plastic bag, seal bag and disposed of like any other part.
