Possible Causes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

An AIR BAG warning light that does not illuminate may be caused by SAS control module malfunction, instrument cluster malfunction or CAN communication network malfunction.

  1. Confirm Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0151

Retrieve DTCs from SAS control module and instrument cluster. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)  under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC U0151 is retrieved, network communication system has malfunction. Repair as necessary. If DTC U0151 is not retrieved, inspect instrument cluster. If instrument cluster is normal, go to next step. If instrument cluster is not normal, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Confirm DTC B2477

Retrieve DTCs. If DTC B2477 is retrieved, reconfigure instrument cluster. See IMMOBILIZER RESETTING PROCEDURE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DTC B2477 is not retrieved, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
