Installation (Sport Utility w/4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L & 8.1L Engines)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, and 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If necessary, install the starter heat shield.
- If necessary, snap the transmission cover to the starter.
- Install the positive cable to the starter.
- Install and tighten the positive battery cable nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the starter lead to the starter. See Figure.
- Install and tighten the starter lead nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position the starter into place.
- Install and tighten the starter bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- On 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines, connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
- If equipped with 4WD, position the front axle mounting bracket bolt until the bolt is fully seated. See Figure.
- If equipped with 4WD, install the front axle mounting bracket nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- On 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines, install the transmission cover bolt. See Figure. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten negative battery cable bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
