Installation (Sport Utility w/4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L & 8.1L Engines)

  1. If necessary, install the starter heat shield.
  2. If necessary, snap the transmission cover to the starter.
  3. Install the positive cable to the starter.
  4. Install and tighten the positive battery cable nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the starter lead to the starter. See Figure.
  6. Install and tighten the starter lead nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Position the starter into place.
  8. Install and tighten the starter bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. On 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines, connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  10. If equipped with 4WD, position the front axle mounting bracket bolt until the bolt is fully seated. See Figure.
  11. If equipped with 4WD, install the front axle mounting bracket nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. On 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines, install the transmission cover bolt. See Figure. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten negative battery cable bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
