Fan Shroud: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable with the following procedures:
    1. Record all of the vehicle preset radio stations.
    2. Turn off all the lamps and the accessories.
    3. Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
    4. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. See Fig 1 .

  2. Partially drain the cooling system with the following procedures:
    1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
    2. Remove the coolant pressure cap.
    3. Raise and support the vehicle.
    4. Place a drain pan under the drain cock.
    5. Open the radiator drain cock.
    6. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainers at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Remove the right and the left engine mount struts. See Fig 2 , Fig 3 , Fig 4 , or Fig 5 .

  7. Remove the left front fender upper diagonal brace with the following procedures:
    1. Remove the electrical harness push-in connector from the brace.
    2. Remove the bolt from the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the inner fender. See Fig 6 .
    3. Remove the bolts from the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the radiator support.
    4. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.

  8. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  9. NOTE: Do not disconnect PCM connectors when removing harness.

  10. Remove the air cleaner assembly. See Fig 7 and Fig 8 .
  11. Remove the PCM harness from the fan shroud clip.
  12. If equipped remove the cooling fan heat shields.
  13. Disconnect the cooling fan shroud electrical connectors.
  14. Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts. See Fig 9 .
  15. Disengage the cooling fan shroud clip from the top of the radiator.
  16. Remove the radiator upper support brackets that connect to the fan shroud.
  17. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
