Rear Brake Rotor: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Install a C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper, with the C-clamp ends against the rear of the caliper body and the outboard disc brake pad.
  3. Using the C-clamp, compress the piston into the caliper bore just enough to allow the caliper to slide away from the rotor.
  4. Remove the C-clamp.
  5. Remove and support the caliper and bracket as an assembly with heavy mechanics wire. DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic flexible brake hose. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER  .
  6. Matchmark the position of the brake rotor to the wheel studs.
  7. Remove the brake rotor.
    CAUTION: When a brake rotor has been separated from a hub/axle flange, the mating surface of the brake rotor must be cleaned of any rust or contaminants. Failure to do this may result in lateral runout of the brake rotor, and brake pulsation.
  8. If the brake rotor is to be reinstalled to the vehicle, use the rotor/drum flange resurfacing kit in order to clean any rust or corrosion from the hub/axle flange mating surface of the brake rotor.
  9. Use the wheel hub/flange resurfacing kit in order to clean the wheel hub flange.
