Removal (2500 & 3500 Series)

- Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. See DISABLING PARK BRAKE CABLE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER under PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Perform the following procedure to remove the cable from the backing plate:
- Compress the spring by pushing towards the lever.
- Depress the locking tabs.
- Pull the cable housing out of the backing plate.
- Remove the cable through the slot in the backing plate.
- Remove the park brake cable from the lever.
- Remove the rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR .
- Remove the axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in the appropriate DIFFERENTIALS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Remove the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOES .
- Remove the backing plate nuts. See Fig 1.
- Remove the backing plate from the axle housing flange.
