Installation (1500 Series Pickup Without 4-Wheel Steering)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, and 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange. See Figure.
- Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts (1500 series only):
- Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
- Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
- Apply Threadlocker (GM P/N 12345493) to the threads of the bolt.
- Install the backing plate bolts. Tighten the backing plate bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOES .
- Install the axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in the appropriate DIFFERENTIALS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Adjust the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Install the rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR .
- Install the park brake cable to the lever. See Figure.
- Perform the following procedure to install the cable to the backing plate:
- Compress the spring by pushing towards the lever.
- Route the cable through the slot in the backing plate.
- Push the cable housing into the backing plate until the locking tabs snap into place.
- Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer. See Figure. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower vehicle.
- Adjust park brake cable. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
