Removal (With 4-Wheel Steering)

CAUTION: When lifting the vehicle do not allow the jack to touch the rear steering gear. If the jack touches the rear steering gear you may damage the gear or the rack and pinion boots. If the boots are damaged replace the rack and pinion boot.
  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the intermediate cable then release the cable from the equalizer bar. See Figure.
  5. Remove the rear park brake bracket bolt. See Fig 1.
  6. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever. See Fig 2.
  7. Remove the wheel bearing. See REAR WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in the appropriate DIFFERENTIALS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  8. Remove the park brake assembly and backing plate from the steering knuckle.
  9. Remove the park brake shoe retaining clip bolt and retaining clip.
  10. Remove the park brake shoe from the actuator.
