Removal (1500 Series)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, and 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Relieve the tension from the park brake cables from the equalizer by pulling down on the intermediate cable and release the rear cables from the equalizer bar.
- Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
- On vehicles without 4-wheel steering, remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
- On vehicles with 4-wheel steering, remove the rear park brake bracket bolt. See Figure.
- On all vehicles, remove the rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR .
- Remove the axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in the appropriate DIFFERENTIALS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Remove the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOES .
- Remove the backing plate bolts. See Fig 1.
- Remove the park brake actuator lever housing from the backing plate.
