Disassembly (Front)

- Remove the brake caliper from the vehicle. See BRAKE CALIPER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.WARNING: Do not place your fingers in front of the piston in an attempt to catch or protect it when applying compressed air. This could result in serious injury.CAUTION: Use only enough air to ease the piston out of the bore. If the piston is blown out, even with the padding, it can be damaged.
- Place a thin piece of wood in front of the piston in order to prevent damage to the piston when removing it from the caliper bore.
- Direct compressed air into the brake caliper fluid inlet in order to remove the piston. See Fig 1 .
- Remove the dust boot. See Fig 2 .
- Remove the square cut seal with a nonmetal tool. See Fig 3 .
- Remove the bleeder valve. See Fig 4 .
- Inspect the piston, caliper bore and the piston seal groove for the following conditions:
- Corrosion.
- Pitting.
- Scoring.
- Use crocus cloth to attempt to remove any light corrosion. If you find excessive corrosion, pitting or scoring around the piston seal groove area or the piston then replace the brake caliper and/or the piston.
- Clean all brake components with denatured alcohol. Use dry, filtered, compressed air to dry the parts and to blow out the passages.
