Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

- Did you review the hydraulic brakes operation and perform the necessary inspection? If so, go to next step. If not, go to GENERAL DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the brake warning indicator. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate briefly during the bulb check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 11.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Apply the park brake. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 7.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Release park brake. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level indicator switch and a good ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 9.
- Inspect for poor connections or a poor ground at the brake fluid level indicator switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to next step.
- Inspect brake fluid level indicator switch for proper operation. Does brake fluid level indicator switch work properly? If so, go to INTERMITTENT under GENERAL DIAGNOSIS in TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to step 15.
- Disconnect the park brake warning lamp switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake warning lamp switch and ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to step 10. If not, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the body control module. Test the signal circuit of the park brake warning lamp switch for a high resistance or an open. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to step 12.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level indicator switch for a high resistance or an open. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to step 11.
- Inspect for poor connections or a poor case ground at the park brake warning lamp switch. See INTERMITTENT under GENERAL DIAGNOSIS in TROUBLE SHOOTING. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to step 13.
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster. See INTERMITTENT under GENERAL DIAGNOSIS in TROUBLE SHOOTING. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to step 14.
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Body Control Module. INTERMITTENT under GENERAL DIAGNOSIS in TROUBLE SHOOTING. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 17. If not, go to step 16.
- Replace the park brake warning lamp switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 17
- Replace the instrument cluster. After repairs are complete, go to step 17.
- Replace the brake fluid level indicator switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 17.
- Replace the Body Control Module. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, the system should be okay. If not, go to step 2.
