Park Brake Shoe - Disc: Installation

  1. Install a new park brake shoe over the axle flange.
  2. Position the shoe on the actuation mechanism.
  3. Holding the lower end of the shoe away from the backing plate, slide the shoe down, over the top of the hold down spring.
  4. Place the lower end of the shoe against the backing plate.
  5. Slide the shoe up and under the hold down spring.
  6. Inspect the position of the shoe assembly.
  7. Manually check the park brake for proper operation by moving the park brake actuator lever and observing the movement of the actuation mechanism.
  8. Install the park brake cable to the park brake lever. See PARK BRAKE CABLE - REAR RWD PICKUPS  or PARK BRAKE CABLE - REAR 4WD PICKUPS AND UTILITIES  .
  9. Adjust the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
  10. Install the rear brake rotor.
  11. Install the brake caliper and mounting bracket. See BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET - REAR .
  12. Install the tire and wheel.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
