Drum Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM .
  4. Remove the brake shoes. See DRUM BRAKE SHOE .
  5. Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER .
  6. Remove the axle shaft. See appropriate AXLE SHAFT article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  7. Remove the backing plate bolts. See Figure.
  8. Remove the backing plate.
