Disc Brake Backing Plate - Rear: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Remove the park brake cable from the rear brake caliper.
  4. Remove the brake caliper and bracket assembly.
  5. Remove the brake rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR - REAR .
  6. Remove the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOE - DISC .
  7. Remove the rear drive axle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFT article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  8. Remove the backing plate nuts. See Figure.
  9. Remove the backing plate from axle housing.
