Brake Rotor - Front: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. On 2 wheel drive vehicles, remove the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER - FRONT SINGLE PISTON  or BRAKE CALIPER - FRONT DUAL PISTON  .
  4. On 4 wheel drive vehicles, remove the brake caliper and mounting bracket. See BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET - FRONT .
  5. On 4 wheel drive vehicles, remove retaining ring.
  6. On 4 wheel drive vehicles, remove the brake rotor.
  7. On 2 wheel drive vehicles, remove brake rotor and wheel bearings. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in FRONT SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION.
  8. On all vehicles, inspect the brake rotor. See DISC ROTOR SURFACE AND WEAR INSPECTION  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
  9. Inspect the brake caliper. See DISC CALIPER INSPECTION  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
  10. Refinish the rotor if necessary.
