Brake Pads - Front Dual Piston Caliper: Removal

- Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
- If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, use an appropriate tool to remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Compress the front caliper piston. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston is fully seated in the caliper bore. Remove the C-clamp from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake caliper assembly from the mounting bracket. See BRAKE CALIPER - FRONT DUAL PISTON .
- Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
- Remove the inboard brake pad. See Fig 1.
- Remove the outboard brake pad. See Fig 2.
- Inspect the disc brake caliper. See DISC CALIPER INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Inspect the caliper bolts and bushings for corrosion or damage, replace if damaged or corroded. See DISC MOUNTING AND HARDWARE INSPECTION - REAR under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
