Parking Brake Will Not Hold Or Release

  1. Were you sent here from the Parking Brake Symptom Table? If so, go to next step. If not, seeGENERAL DIAGNOSIS (PARKING BRAKE) .
  2. Inspect the parking brake system for proper operation. See PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS . Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step  6. If not, go to next step.
  3. Inspect drum brake system for proper operation. See DRUM BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS . Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step  6. If not, go to next step.
  4. Inspect disc brake system for proper operation. See DISC BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS . Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step  6. If not, go to next step.
  5. Inspect hydraulic brake system for proper operation. See HYDRAULIC BRAKES SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS . Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to next step. If not, go see GENERAL DIAGNOSIS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) .
  6. Road test vehicle in order to confirm proper operation. See BRAKE SYSTEM ROAD TEST . Is the condition still present? See  2. If condition is not present system is okay.
