Front Brake Pads: Installation

- Using a C-clamp, bottom piston into the caliper bore. Use an old brake pad or wooden block placed across the face of the piston.
- On AWD models, install the inboard and outboard brake pads.
- On RWD models, install retainer spring onto the inboard brake pad.
- Install the outboard brake pad.
- Compress the outboard pad ears to the caliper. See Fig 1.
- On all models, install the caliper mounting bolts. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- On AWD models, remove wheel lug nut securing rotor to hub.
- On all models, install wheels.
- Lower vehicle.
- With engine off, gradually apply brake pedal about 2/3 of the pedal's travel distance.
- Slowly release brake pedal.
- Wait 15 seconds, then repeat step 10 until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
- Fill brake master cylinder to proper level.
- Burnish pads and rotors. To burnish pads and rotor, select a smooth road with little or no traffic. Accelerate vehicle to 30 MPH (48 km/h). Avoid overheating brakes while performing this procedure. Using moderate to firm pressure, apply brakes to bring vehicle to a stop. DO NOT allow brakes to lock. Repeat about 20 stops. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish the brake pads and rotors.
