Master Cylinder: Reassembly

CAUTION:
Do not use abrasives to clean brake master cylinder bore.
- Clean interior and exterior of master cylinder, secondary piston, and return spring in denatured alcohol.
- Inspect master cylinder bore, inlet and outlet ports, secondary piston, and return spring for cracks, scoring, pitting, and/or corrosion. Replace master cylinder if any of these conditions exist.
- Dry master cylinder and individual components with non-lubricated, filtered air.
- Lubricate master cylinder bore, secondary piston, return spring, and all of the individual overhaul components with DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.
- Assemble lubricated, new primary seal and retainer, and new secondary seal onto the secondary piston.
- Install lubricated return spring and secondary piston assembly into master cylinder bore.
- Install lubricated, new primary piston assembly into master cylinder bore.
- Using a smooth, round-ended tool, depress the primary piston and install new piston retainer.
- Install master cylinder reservoir to master cylinder.
- Install master cylinder reservoir to the master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install reservoir cap and diaphragm to reservoir.
