Component Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Safari and 2002 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The parking brake must be adjusted any time the parking brake cables are replaced, disconnected, or the parking brake holding ability is inadequate. The parking brake system consists of a pedal/lever assembly, a series of cables, actuator levers, an equalizer, and a release cable. The parking brake is not designed for use in place of service brakes. It should be applied only after the vehicle comes to a complete stop, except in an emergency. Before working on the parking brake system, make sure the service brakes are in good working order and adjusted properly.
