Parking Brake

NOTE: Ensure rear brake shoes are adjusted before adjusting parking brake. See REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOES  under ADJUSTMENTS.
NOTE: The parking brake must be adjusted any time parking brake cables have been replaced or disconnected, or if parking brake holding ability is inadequate.
  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Rotate rear wheels and note amount of base brake adjustment drag.
  3. Tighten adjuster nut on the equalizer, periodically turning rear wheels by hand, until drag on rear brake shoes begins to increase.
  4. Lower vehicle.
  5. Fully apply and release parking brake lever to the floor 3 times.
  6. Raise vehicle.
  7. Repeat step  3.
  8. Loosen adjuster nut on equalizer 2 revolutions. The brake drag should be the same as it was in step  2.
  9. Lower vehicle.
