Disabling System
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2004 Mazda Tribute, 2004 Mazda RX-8, 2004 Mazda MX-5 Miata, 2004 Mazda MPV, and 2004 Mazda B4000. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
B-Series Pickups are equipped with a passenger's air bag ON/OFF switch. Turning switch off is not a substitute for completely disabling the passenger's air bag.
- Obtain radio anti-theft protection code from vehicle owner prior to servicing vehicle or deactivate radio anti-theft function before disconnecting vehicle battery.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies, if equipped. WAIT at least ONE MINUTE for back-up power supply to be depleted.
- Remove screws and position hood release handle aside. Remove screws from lower steering column opening finish panel. Pull out to release retaining clips, and remove lower steering column opening finish panel. Remove 5 bolts and remove lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement. Disconnect clockspring electrical connector at base of steering column. See Fig 1 . Install Air Bag Simulator 105-R0012 (418-F088) to vehicle harness side of clockspring electrical connector. See Fig 2 .
- Open glove box. Press inward on sides of glove box, and lower glove box to floor. Release tab and disconnect passenger's air bag module electrical connector. See Fig 3 . Install Air Bag Simulator 105-R0012 (418-F088) to vehicle harness at passenger's air bag assembly.
