Front Brake Pads: Installation

  1. Using "C" clamp, compress caliper piston completely into the caliper bore.
  2. Apply a very thin coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the pad hardware mating surfaces of the caliper bracket only. Install brake pad retainers to brake caliper bracket.
  3. Install brake pads to caliper bracket. Rotate brake caliper into position over brake pads and to caliper mounting bracket.
  4. Install lower brake caliper guide pin bolt. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Remove wheel lug nuts retaining the brake rotor to hub. Install front wheels. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specification.
  5. Lower vehicle. With engine off, gradually apply brake pedal about 2/3 of its travel distance. Slowly release brake pedal. Wait 15 seconds, then gradually apply brake pedal about 2/3 of its travel distance again, until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained. This will properly seat brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  6. Fill master cylinder reservoir to the proper level.
  7. Burnish the pads and rotors. Accelerate vehicle to 30 MPH. Using moderate to firm pressure, apply brakes to bring vehicle to a stop. DO NOT allow brakes to lock. Repeat about 20 stops. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish brake pads and rotor.
