Valve Rocker Arm, Shaft & Push Rod: Installation

  1. Lubricate top of valves, valve bridge stem, valve bridge, and valve bridge pins with clean engine oil. Install valve bridge pins. Install valve bridges. Lubricate valve lifter end of push rod with clean engine oil.
  2. Install push rods. To ensure push rod is properly installed, gently pull up on push rod. You should feel resistance from push rod trying to lift valve lifter. Lubricate rocker arm shaft bolt threads, tops of push rods, rocker arms and rocker arm shaft with clean engine oil during installation.
  3. Install rocker arm shaft assembly to cylinder head. Tighten rocker arm shaft bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (41 N.m) in proper sequence. See Fig 1. Adjust valve clearance. Install and tighten lower valve rocker arm cover to specifications. Tighten in proper sequence.
