Valve Lifters: Inspection

- Check for nicks, burrs or scoring on parts. Ensure lifter roller operates smoothly without excessive play and contains no flat spots.
- Clean valve lifter in suitable cleaning solvent and air dry. Measure roller protrusion from valve lifter body. Roller protrusion production valve is .0389-.0394" (.989-1.00 mm) and service limit is .0354" (.90 mm). Replace valve lifter assembly if measurement value is less than service limit. Inspect for valve lifter body for scuffing and wear, valve lifter roller assembly for wear and valve lifter roller for smooth rotation. Inspect valve lifter bore in cylinder block for scuffing and wear.
