Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

  1. Install camshaft thrust plate to camshaft. Install camshaft driven gear. Install a NEW camshaft driven gear bolt. Leave bolt finger tight. Install camshaft and gear assembly into cylinder block, aligning camshaft gear to crankshaft gear as shown. See Fig 1.
  2. Install camshaft thrust plate bolts. Install camshaft position sensor exciter ring to camshaft gear. Install camshaft position sensor exciter ring bolts.
  3. Block crankshaft from turning using a wooden handle. Install new camshaft gear bolt. Tighten new camshaft gear bolt to 173 ft. lbs. (234 N.m). Measure camshaft end play with Dial Indicator Set. The production value is 0.0020-0.0045" (0.050-0.114 mm) and service limit is 0.0079" (0.2 mm). Replace camshaft gear or camshaft thrust plate if measured value exceeds service limit.
