Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
- Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Engine Data 2 list. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is 0.2-3.76 volts, problem is intermittent. Check wiring and connections. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is not 0.2-3.76 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C refrigerant pressure sensor. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is less than 0.2 volt, go to next step. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is greater than 0.2 volt, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between A/C refrigerant pressure sensor 5-volt reference circuit and signal circuit. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is greater than 3.76 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is less than 3.76 volts, go to step 8.
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between A/C refrigerant pressure sensor 5-volt reference circuit and low reference circuit. If voltage measures less than 5.1 volts, go to next step. If voltage measures greater than 5.1 volts, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Measure resistance from A/C refrigerant pressure sensor low reference circuit to ground. If resistance measures less than 5 ohms, go to step 12. If resistance measures greater than 5 ohms, go to step 11.
- Test A/C refrigerant pressure sensor 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Test A/C refrigerant pressure sensor 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground, a high resistance, or an open. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Test A/C refrigerant pressure sensor signal circuit for a short to ground, a high resistance, or an open. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Test A/C refrigerant pressure sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Test A/C refrigerant pressure sensor low reference circuit for a high resistance or an open. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Inspect for poor connections at A/C refrigerant pressure sensor harness connector. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If connections are okay, go to step 14.
- Inspect for poor connections at PCM harness connector. Repair as necessary, then go to step 16. If connections are okay, go to step 15.
- Replace A/C refrigerant pressure sensor. See PRESSURE SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to step 16.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After replacement, go to next step.
- Use scan tool in to clear DTCs. Start engine. Request A/C operation. If DTC P0530 resets, go to step 2. If DTC P0530 does not reset, system is okay.
NOTE:
This step must be performed in an area with an ambient temperature that is greater than 32°F (0°C).
