WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using Rear Bearing Installer (J-24446) or equivalent, install rear ball bearing until fully seated. Install retaining ring over bearing with beveled edge upward.
  2. Position main housing assembly so front end is facing upward. Assemble and install Dial Indicator Set (J-5959) or equivalent. See Fig 1. Zero dial indicator.
  3. Using a screwdriver, lift rear of rotating clutch housing. Note dial indicator reading. Acceptable end play range is .0110-.0610" (.279-1.549 mm). Remove dial indicator tool set.
  4. If end play is not within specified range, a different selective spacer must be installed. If necessary to install a different selective spacer, remove the retaining ring and ball bearing, then perform selective spacer installation again. See REAR COVER SELECTIVE SPACER INSTALLATION .
