Rear Housing Components

NOTE:
Bolts used to install torque converter housing and rear cover to main housing are similar in size and color; however, rear cover bolts are shorter than torque converter housing bolts. Keep all bolts, nuts and washers with their respective component to avoid installation and operating problems.
- If a park brake cable bracket is present, remove 3 bolts (2) and bracket, then remove 13 rear cover bolts (3). See Fig 1.
- If a park brake cable bracket not is present, remove 4 bolts (1), then remove the 12 rear cover bolts (2). See Fig 2.
- Disengage rear cover from main housing dowel pin and pawl support pin. Remove rear cover and gasket. See Fig 3.WARNING: Always remove or install P3 planetary carrier assembly by holding onto output shaft. Failure to remove or install P3 planetary carrier assembly holding onto output shaft may allow output shaft to fall, causing personal injury or damage.
- Remove output shaft and P3 planetary carrier assembly as a unit, holding assembly by output shaft. Remove output shaft from P3 planetary carrier. If equipped, remove thrust bearing and P3 sun gear. See Fig 4.
