Transmission Fluid Filtration

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Fluid filtration is provided by 2 filter systems. A suction filter, located in the sump, provides general protection to the entire hydraulic system by filtering large particulates. A spin-on filter (control-main filter) provides full-time protection for the control solenoids and multi-pass protection for the entire system. See Figure. The spin-on filter is externally located on the converter housing at the lower left front of the transmission.
