Converter Housing: Disassembly
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- From lower side of torque converter housing, remove pressure tap plug and "O" ring. See Fig 1. Using a suitable filter wrench, remove control-main filter.
- On models with direct mount, without cooler manifold, remove magnet from filter. See Fig 1. Remove filter attachment tube. Remove 2 hydraulic connector assemblies and "O" rings or 2 shipping plugs and "O" rings.
- On models with cooler manifold, remove magnet from filter. See Fig 1. Remove filter attachment tube. On direct mount type, without cooler manifold, remove bolt access cover. Remove 2 shipping plugs and "O" rings or 2 elbow-type hydraulic fittings. Mark orientation of each fitting to the manifold, loosen elbow fitting lock nuts and remove fittings and "O" rings.
- On models with cooler manifold, remove cooler manifold bolts, cooler manifold, gasket, channel plate, and gasket. See Fig 2.
