Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM connector. Check connector terminals for signs of corrosion, poor connection or other damage. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 14.NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (SA911141NE) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (SA9206Z) when performing electrical tests.
- Measure resistance between SDM connector terminals C5 and C6. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between SDM connector terminal C6 and ground. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, go to step 11.
- Measure voltage between SDM connector terminal C5 and ground. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminal C6 and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 11.
- Measure resistance between SDM connector terminal C5 and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 11.
- Disconnect SIS connector. Measure resistance of White wire between SDM connector terminal C5 and SIS harness connector terminal "B". If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 3 ohms, go to step 10.
- Measure resistance of Yellow wire between SDM connector terminal C6 and SIS harness connector terminal "A". If resistance is 3 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to step 12.
- Repair open or high resistance in circuit. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 14.
- Disconnect SIS. If condition is no longer present, go to next step. If condition is still present, go to step 13.
- Replace SIS. See SIDE IMPACT SENSOR (SIS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 14.
- Turn ignition off. Repair circuits that are shorted to each other, to voltage or to ground. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to next step.
- Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTC's. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
