Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector, located under instrument panel. See Figure. If connector is damaged or corroded, go to next step. If connector is okay, go to step  4.
  3. If harness side of connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  9. If passenger side air bag module pigtail connector is damaged, go to step  7.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (SA911141NE) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (SA9206Z) when performing electrical tests.
  4. Turn ignition off. Install SIR Driver/Passenger Load Tool (SA9409Z-A) using Load Tool Adapter (SA9409Z-99P) to passenger-side air bag harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for SIR DTC's. If DTC B0016 is retrieved by scan tool, go to next step. If DTC B0016 is not retrieved by scan tool, go to step  7.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove load tool and load tool adapter from harness connector. Disconnect SDM harness connector. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminals A3 and A4. If resistance is infinite, go to step  8. If resistance is less than infinite, go to next step.
  6. Repair short between circuits 1403 and 1404. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  9.
  7. Replace passenger-side air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  9.
  8. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  9. Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTC's. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
