Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect harness connector from passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator. Inspect harness connector terminals for corrosion, terminal damage or poor connections. If damage is found, go to step 16. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Inspect passenger-side air bag module disable switch terminals for signs of corrosion, terminal damage or poor connections. If damage is found, go to step 15. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Remove harness connector from passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DISABLE SWITCH INDICATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect connector for corrosion, terminal damage or poor connections. If damage is found, go to step 16. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Inspect passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator terminals for corrosion, damage or signs of poor connections. If damage is found, replace passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DISABLE SWITCH INDICATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 19. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) or Flat WIre Probe Adapter Kit (J-42675), measure resistance of LED indicator module for an open or high resistance condition. If resistance is greater than one ohm, replace passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator. Go to step 19. If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step.
- Disconnect SDM harness connector. If connector shows signs of corrosion, poor connections or damage, go to step 16. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Tan/Black wire between SDM harness connector terminal A10 and passenger-side air bag module disable switch connector terminal "A". See Figure & Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Press MIN MAX button on digital multimeter. Connect leads of digital multimeter to appropriate terminals. If low or no resistance is indicated, go to step 10. If low or no resistance is not indicated, go to next step.
- Repair open or high resistance in circuit 371. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to next step.
- Check continuity of Pink wire between SDM harness connector terminal A9 and passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator terminal "B". Press MIN MAX button on digital multimeter. Connect leads of digital multimeter to appropriate terminals. Go to next step.
- Check continuity of Light Blue wire between passenger-side air bag module disable switch connector terminal "E" and passenger-side air bag module disable switch indicator terminal "A". Press MIN MAX button on digital multimeter. If low or no resistance is not indicated in either circuit, go to next step. If low or no resistance is indicated in both circuits, go to step 13.
- Repair open or high resistance in circuit 353 or 1803. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 19.
- Measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminals A9 and A10. If resistance is less than infinite, go to next step. If resistance is infinite, go to step 15.
- Repair short between circuits 353 and 371. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 19.
- Replace passenger-side air bag module disable switch. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DISABLE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 17.
- Replace harness connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 19.
- Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear all DTC's. Road test vehicle. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
- Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all SIR components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
