PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators, located on rear view mirror, are used to notify driver when PPS has enabled or disabled the passenger-side air bag module. PPS indicators also inform driver of any PPS malfunctions. When ignition is turned on, PPS ECU is supplied with ignition voltage and commands both PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators on for 5 seconds. PPS ECU conducts tests on PPS components and circuits while both lights are on. If no malfunctions are detected, PPS will turn PASSENGER AIR BAG indicator on or off depending on status of PPS. If a malfunction is detected, PPS will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), default PPS to off position and communicate to SDM that a DTC has been set.
