Removal & Installation (8.1L)

CAUTION: Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor retaining bolt has self-tapping threads. Care must be taken to not strip the threads when installing.

Raise and support vehicle. Remove engine shield bolts and engine shield (if equipped). Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector. See Fig 1.
Remove CMP sensor retaining bolt. Remove CMP sensor. If CMP sensor is not being replaced, inspect CMP sensor for wear, cracks or leakage. Inspect CMP sensor "O" ring for wear or damage. Replace as necessary.
Lubricate CMP sensor "O" ring with clean engine oil. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten CMP sensor retaining bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
