Fuel Hoses & Pipes: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sierra and 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Natural gas is stored under high pressure. If a leak occurs, the high pressure could cause a personal injury. In order to prevent Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel leaks, always replace the CNG fuel system "O" rings during service.
  1. Install the line into the vehicle. Connect the line to the HPL solenoid outlet fitting with a NEW "O" ring face seal. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fitting to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the line to the filter inlet with a new "O" ring face seal. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fitting to specification.
  3. Install the fuel line retainer clips. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at all serviced fittings using the Combustible Gas Detector. Install the truck body as required on ZW9 equipped vehicles.


WARNING: Natural gas is stored under high pressure. If a leak occurs, the high pressure could cause a personal injury. In order to prevent Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel leaks, always replace the CNG fuel system "O" rings during service.
  1. Install the line into the vehicle. Connect the line to the fuel filter inlet fitting using a NEW "O" ring face seal. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the fuel outlet line to the HPL solenoid using a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification. Install the fuel line hold down clips. Install the negative battery. Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification.
  3. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at all serviced fittings using the Combustible Gas Detector. Install the tank cover. See FUEL TANK COVER  .

  1. Install the fuel line through the hole in the filter mounting bracket. Connect the line to the filter outlet fitting with a new "O" ring face seal. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install the fuel filter mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. Install the fuel filter bracket mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. Connect the fuel line to the fuel filter inlet fitting with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification.
  3. Connect the fuel line to the HPR inlet fitting with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification.
  4. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at all serviced fittings using the Combustible Gas Detector. Install the truck body as required on ZW9 equipped vehicles.

  3. Install the negative battery cable. Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at all serviced fittings using the Combustible Gas Detector. Install the tank cover. See FUEL TANK COVER  .

  1. Install the fuel line into the vehicle. Connect the fuel line to the LPL solenoid fitting using a new "O" ring face seal. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the center fuel line to the LPL fuel line using a NEW "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification.
  3. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the Combustible Gas Detector.

  2. Connect the fuel line to the HPR fitting using a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring face seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line to specification. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification.
  3. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the Combustible Gas Detector. Install the tank cover. See FUEL TANK COVER  .

  1. Connect the IPR fuel outlet lines to the IPR using NEW "O" rings. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Install the line hold-down bracket and nut. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the IPR fuel outlet line at the fuel rail using the hold-downs. Assemble the IPR fuel outlet line screw clamp around the hold-downs. Tighten the screw clamp to specification.
  3. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the Combustible Gas Detector.

  1. Connect the IPR fuel outlet lines to the IPR using NEW "O" rings. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Install the line hold-down bracket and nut. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the IPR fuel outlet line at the fuel rail using the hold-downs. Assemble the IPR fuel outlet line screw clamp around the hold-downs. Tighten the screw clamp to specification.
  3. Install the negative battery cable(s). Tighten cable bolt(s) to specification. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the Combustible Gas Detector.
