Removal Procedure

- Remove the engine sight shield, if required. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L (LQ4)) or Engine Sight Shield Replacement (6.0L (LQ9)) .
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) lock.
- Disconnect the main electrical connector (1) feeding the ignition coils.
- Remove the harness clips (2).
- Reposition the engine harness, if necessary.
- Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
- Twist each plug wire 1/2 turn.
- Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the ignition coil.
- If equipped with the 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L (LQ4) engine, perform the following:
- Reposition the surge tank/heater hoses from the heater hose bracket.
- Remove the heater hose bracket nut and bracket.
- Remove the ignition coil bracket studs from the rocker arm cover.
- Remove the ignition coils and bracket from the rocker cover.
- Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the throttle body and rocker cover.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
- Remove the gasket (1) from the rocker cover.
- Discard the OLD gasket.
- Remove the oil fill cap from the oil fill tube.
- Remove the oil fill tube from the rocker cover, if required.
- Discard the oil fill tube.
- Clean and inspect the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Unit Repair.
