Timing Chain & Sprockets: Installation

  1. Install the key in the camshaft, if removed. Do not damage the reluctor wheel square bosses. Install the crankshaft sprocket with the reluctor wheel square bosses facing the front to the crankshaft.
  2. Align the timing marks. See Fig 1. Install the camshaft sprocket with the timing chain. Install the timing chain sprocket bolt to the camshaft. Tighten the timing chain sprocket bolt to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Perform steps  24 of the removal procedure to measure the timing chain deflection. Install the engine front cover to the engine block. See FRONT COVER .
  4. Perform TDC offset timing adjustment. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP TDC OFFSET ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
