Removal & Installation: Thermostat: Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, 2002 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2002 Chevrolet Cutaway. NOTE: Thermostats MUST be replaced in pairs.
  1. Remove the air cleaner and the duct assembly. Partially drain the coolant. See DRAINING & FILLING COOLING SYSTEM  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Remove the surge tank.
  2. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the bolts attaching the thermostat housing to the thermostat. Remove the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostats. See Fig 1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
