Fuel Injection Pump: Installation

- Install the new flange gasket on the injection pump. Ensure that the locating stud on the injection pump hub goes into the slotted/elongated hole in the driven gear. Adjust the locating stud to the proper position in order to match with the slotted/elongated hole in the driven gear. See Fig 1.
- Install the injection pump, making sure the locating stud is positioned within the slotted/elongated hole in the driven gear. See Fig 2. Install the injection pump flange nuts and tighten the nuts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the driven gear bolts and tighten the bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Fig 3. Install the grommet for the oil filler tube. Connect the oil filler tube. Connect the fuel feed line at the injection pump. Connect the fuel return line to the top of the injection pump.
- Connect all of the necessary harnesses and connectors. Connect the injection lines. Refer to the tags on the lines. See Figure. Install the intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD .
- Connect the negative battery cables and tighten cables to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Adjust the injection timing. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP TIMING ADJUSTMENTS under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Ensure that the PCM electrical harness is properly routed to avoid contact with the engine cover during installation. Install the interior engine cover (if equipped).
NOTE:
None of the driven gear bolts should be torqued until all of the bolts are installed. This will allow for proper alignment of all of the bolt holes.
