Crankshaft Balancer: Installation

NOTE:
The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.
- Apply a thin coating of RTV sealant GM P/N 121346286 to the crankshaft key. Install the crankshaft balancer key in the crankshaft.
- Use the Crankshaft Balancer Remover and Installer to install the crankshaft balancer on the crankshaft.
- Install the stud to the crankshaft and thread the stud fully into the tapered hole in the crankshaft.
- Install the crankshaft balancer (external) over the end of the crankshaft.
- Install the bearings, washer, and the nut to the crankshaft by turning the nut to pull the crankshaft balancer (external) into place.
- Remove the tool from the crankshaft balancer. Install the crankshaft balancer (external) bolt and washer and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the drive belt pulley to the crankshaft balancer and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle. Install the fan clutch to the water pump (if needed). Install the drive belt on the pulleys. See DRIVE BELT . Install the fan shroud to the radiator. Tighten fan shroud fasteners to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
