WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove valve rocker arms and push rods. See VALVE ROCKER ARM & PUSH ROD .
  2. NOTE: Rotate piston in the cylinder being serviced to the bottom of it's stroke, to ensure that engine does not rotate when compressed air is applied.
  3. Rotate crankshaft until both valves are closed before applying compressed air into cylinder.
  4. Remove spark plug from cylinder being serviced.
  5. Install Spark Plug Port Adapter (J-22794) into spark plug hole. Apply compressed air into cylinder in order to hold the valves closed. Lightly tap the valve spring cap to loosen the valve stem keys. Install Valve Spring Compressor (J-5892-D) to cylinder head. Install valve rocker arm nut. Using valve spring compressor, compress valve springs. See Figure.
  6. Remove valve stem keys.
  7. NOTE: Do not release compressed air from cylinder being worked on. The valve will fall into the cylinder bore.
  8. Slowly release valve spring compressor.
  9. Remove valve spring compressor from cylinder head.
  10. Remove valve spring cap and valve spring from valve component housing. See Figure.
  11. Remove valve stem oil seal.
