Piston, Connecting Rod, & Bearing: Removal

  1. Remove cylinder bore ridge as necessary. Install Crankshaft Protector Button (J-42846) onto the front of crankshaft in order to turn crankshaft. Rotate crankshaft until piston is at bottom of the stroke (BDC). Place a cloth on top of piston. Perform cutting operation with Cylinder Bore Ridge Reamer (J-24270). Remove cylinder bore ridge reamer. Rotate crankshaft until the piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC). Remove cloth and cuttings. Repeat procedure for each piston.
  2. Remove connecting rod nuts.
  3. Remove connecting rod cap and lower connecting rod bearing.
  4. Install rubber fuel line onto the connecting rod bolts to prevent contact with crankshaft.
  5. Remove piston, connecting rod and upper connecting rod bearing out of the top of engine block.
  6. Remove rubber fuel line from connecting rod bolts.
  7. Remove remaining piston and connecting rod assemblies.
  8. Remove crankshaft protector button from the front of crankshaft.
