Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove grille.
  2. Remove A/C condenser.
  3. Remove valve lifters. See VALVE LIFTER REPLACEMENT .
  4. Remove timing chain and sprocket. See TIMING CHAIN & SPROCKETS .
  5. Remove camshaft retainer bolts and remove camshaft retainer.
  6. Install three 8-1.25 x 100 mm bolts into camshaft front bolt holes. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully rotate and pull camshaft out of engine block. See Figure.
  7. Remove bolts from front of camshaft.
  8. Clean and inspect camshaft. See CAMSHAFT BEARING CLEANING & INSPECTION  under OVERHAUL.
