Crankshaft Position Sensor: Installation

  1. Ensure CKP sensor mounting surface is clean and free of burrs. Using a NEW CKP sensor "O" ring lubricated with clean engine oil, install CKP sensor into timing cover.
  2. Ensure CKP sensor is fully seated into timing cover before tightening mounting bolt. A poorly seated CKP sensor may perform erratically and may set false DTCs. Install CKP sensor mounting bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Reconnect CKP sensor harness connector. Install steering linkage shield and tighten mounting bolts to specification (if equipped). Lower vehicle. Perform Crankshaft Position Sensor Variation Learn Procedure. See CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING.

  1. Install the CKP sensor and CKP sensor bolt. Tighten the CKP sensor bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector. Install the positive cable to the starter stud. Install the starter lead nut. and Tighten the nut to specification. Install the starter solenoid lead to the solenoid stud. Install the starter solenoid nut. Tighten the starter solenoid nut to specification.
  3. Slide the starter rearward. Install and tighten the starter bolts to specification. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector. Install the right flywheel cover bolt and tighten to specification. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten the negative battery cable bolt. to specification. Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure. See CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING.

  1. Lubricate CKP sensor "O" ring with clean engine oil. Clean CKP sensor retaining bolt hole of any debris. Install CKP sensor into engine block. Ensure CKP sensor is fully seated against crankshaft reluctor ring. Upper flange on CKP sensor MAY NOT seat against engine block.
  2. Apply Thread Adhesive (12345493) to CKP sensor retaining bolt threads. Install CKP sensor retaining bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector. Position the ignition coil to the rocker cover. Install the driver side rear ignition coil bolts and tighten the bolts to specification.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Install the fuel line bracket to the bellhousing stud. Install the fuel line bracket nut and tighten to specification. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure. See CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING.
