Fuel Tank (Pickup): Removal

CAUTION: Clean all fuel pipe connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the pipes in order to avoid possible fuel system contamination.
  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain as much fuel as possible through fuel filler opening using a hand-operated pump or equivalent.
  2. Remove the fuel tank fill pipe. See FILLER TUBE .
  3. Remove EVAP canister. See EVAP CANISTER  under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS.
  4. Disconnect EVAP pipe and fuel feed and return line fittings near front of fuel tank. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS . Cap fuel and EVAP pipes to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
  5. Remove fuel tank shield (if equipped). See Figure. Support fuel tank. Remove fuel tank strap bolts. Remove fuel tank straps. Slightly lower fuel tank to gain access to electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the fuel sending unit Connector Position Assurance (CPA) connector. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit and fuel pressure sensor harness connectors. Remove fuel tank.
