Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ignition ON, with engine OFF. Use the scan tool to monitor the clutch pedal position switch parameter. Apply and release the clutch pedal several times. Does the scan tool indicate a change in state when the clutch pedal is either applied or released? If yes, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no, go to next step.
- Inspect the adjustment of the clutch pedal position switch and the connector. Does the clutch switch require adjustment or the connector require service? If yes, go to step 11. If no, go to next step.
- Is the engine ignition 1 fuse open? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to next step.
- Start the vehicle. Measure the voltage at the engine ignition 1 fuse in the underhood fuse block. Does measurement indicate battery voltage? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch connector. Start the vehicle. Measure the voltage at the ignition 1 Voltage circuit. Does measurement indicate battery voltage? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 13.
- Use the scan tool to monitor the clutch pedal position switch parameter. Put the transmission in Neutral and apply the parking brake. Start the vehicle. Use a fused jumper wire to repeatedly connect and disconnect terminal "A" and "B" of the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector. Does the scan tool parameter display applied and released? If yes, go to step 15. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect PCM connector C1. Check for continuity, high resistance and a short to voltage on the clutch pedal position switch signal circuit. Did you find an open, high resistance or a short to voltage on the clutch pedal position switch signal circuit? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step 16.
- Turn ignition OFF. Remove the engine ignition 1 fuse. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch connector and PCM connector C1. Check for a short to ground on the ignition 1 voltage circuit. Is the ignition 1 voltage circuit shorted to ground? If yes, go to step 13. If no, go to next step.
- Check for a short to ground on the clutch pedal position switch signal circuit. Is the Clutch Pedal Position switch signal circuit shorted to ground? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step 15.
- Adjust the clutch pedal position switch or repair the connector as necessary. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step 17.
- Repair the power distribution circuit to the engine ignition 1 fuse. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step 17.
- Repair the open, high resistance or short to ground in the ignition 1 voltage circuit or a parallel circuit that uses the fuse. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step 17.
- Repair the open, high resistance or short in the clutch pedal position switch signal circuit. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step 17.
- Replace clutch pedal position switch. See appropriate article in TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article. Did you complete the replacement? If yes, go to step 17.
- Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - CORVETTE article. Did you complete the replacement? If yes, go to next step.
- Perform the following procedure in order to verify the repair:
- Select DTC.
- Select Clear Info.
- Operate the vehicle from 0 MPH to above 24 MPH then back to 0 MPH 7 times.
- Select Specific DTC.
- Enter DTC P0704.
Has the test run and passed? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2.
- With the scan tool, observe the stored information, capture info and DTC info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
NOTE:
Voltage to this fuse is run through the Ignition Relay.
