Oil Pan: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Alignment of the oil pan is critical to ensure transaxle flange-to-oil pan alignment. Application of RTV is critical to ensure positive seal of the chamfered sealing flange on the oil pan-to-engine block mating surface. After the pan has been placed on the engine block, DO NOT allow the pan to move as this will not allow the sealant to properly seal in the chamfered flange.
  1. Install Oil Pan Alignment Pins (J-44715) into the datum holes. See Fig 1. Tighten until firmly sealed in the block. Apply a 2 mm bead of Permatex The Right Stuff 3 mm from the inside edge of the oil pan.
CAUTION: After the pan has been placed on the engine block, DO NOT allow the pan to move as this will not allow the sealant to properly seal in the chamfered flange.
  2. Install the oil pan to the engine. Install the oil pan bolts. See Figure. Install the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts. Remove the oil pan alignment pins. Install the remaining oil pan bolts. Tighten the oil pan bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Tighten the transaxle-to-oil pan bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Attach the electrical connector bracket to the oil pan. Lower the vehicle. Refill the engine with appropriate oil and adjust the oil level. See ENGINE OILING . Start the vehicle and inspect for oil leaks.
