Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove flexplate. See appropriate TRANSMISSION REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING (A/T). Carefully drill a small, shallow, pilot hole into the steel ring of the crankshaft rear oil seal. Screw in a self-tapping screw. Use pliers to pull the crankshaft rear oil seal out.
  2. Coat the lip of the crankshaft rear oil seal with clean engine oil. Install seal using Rear Crankshaft Seal Installer (J-42067). Installer also establishes depth of seal in crankshaft seal bore. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
